Horizontal grinders have become more popular in many applications the last few years.  They will process most kinds of wood waste.  They are relatively expensive.  However, horizontal grinders do have advantages over their predecessor the tub grinder.  They tend not to throw as much material out of their grinding chamber because it is enclosed.  These machines are preferred when working in areas where flying debris might cause a hazard to others in the vicinity, or where the space is constrained to allow proper working distance around a tub grinder.  This makes them ideal for working inside populated areas.
